The Diaries: How I'm Staying Busy During Self-Isolation
It’s no surprise that everyone’s routines have been anything but normal. Although it’s so easy to fall victim to all the negative feelings, it is beyond important to acknowledge all the positive things that have come out of this crazy moment in time. If I am being completely transparent, I miss being able to walk to my favourite coffee shop, I even miss taking transit to work as I angrily get upset at the delays that make me almost late to just about everything. It’s amazing the things we take for granted. Because my routine has had to change, I’ve had to make some changes in order to continue tackling my to-do list.
It is no surprise that students are experts at working from home. But unfortunately that is just not the case for me. A library or coffee shop will almost always be my choice to get work done. For me this ensures there are no distractions and no beds to tempt me into taking a nap. So not having the luxury of escaping to a place in order to get my work done sure has been difficult. Getting ready as if I am going out has always worked for me. It’s my version of fake it till you make it.
For many, working out of the house will be new territory and so finding little tricks to help you be productive are key. Nevertheless, if you’re like me and have felt a little on edge about all your plans being altered, do remind yourself that you are so lucky to have the life that you have. Wether it’s having more family time, or being able to tackle more work without the disruptions of commuting, do acknowledge the positive in your life. With that, I look forward to a weekend filled with books, warm blankets, movies, and snacks. Never ever forget the snacks, they are a necessity.
